About Us
Our Vision
The vision of the Kapiti Levin Malayali Association (KLMA) is to keep our Malayali community united and strong in the Kapiti–Levin region. We want to celebrate and share the culture of Kerala, while also passing it on with pride to our children and future generations. By living our traditions and values, and at the same time respecting New Zealand’s way of life, we hope to build a community that is both proud of its roots and open to everyone around us.
Our Mision
The mission of KLMA is to bring people together through Kerala’s festivals, arts, music, dance, and food. We want to create a friendly and welcoming space where every Malayali feels like part of a family, where we celebrate happy times together and support each other in difficult times. KLMA also aims to teach our younger generations about their heritage so they can be proud of their identity, while also being active and positive members of New Zealand society.
As Secretary of KLMA, I see this spirit every day. Whether it is during a lively cultural program, a festival filled with music and food, or simply helping a new family settle into life here, KLMA reminds us that even far from Kerala, we are still connected by one heart. Our mission is simple — to keep the flame of our culture alive, to pass it proudly to our children, and to share it with the wider Kapiti–Levin community.
As a president “When we first dreamed of the Kapiti Levin Malayali Association (KLMA), it was not just about forming another group. It was about creating a home away from home. Many of us had left Kerala, carrying in our hearts the taste of our food, the rhythm of our songs, and the warmth of our festivals. But in a new land, far from our roots, there was a quiet longing — to hear our mother tongue, to celebrate Onam together, to see our children learn the beauty of our traditions.
